County Recognizes 7 for Waste Reduction
The winners of seven annual “Waste Watch” awards have been announced by the Ventura County Solid Waste Management Department.
The agency honored the Sanchez Market and Rancho Sespe Housing Development in Piru, Oak Hills Elementary School in Oak Park, Truestone Inc. and Custom Lawn Service in Saticoy, Art Detour Studio in Ojai and the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library near Simi Valley.
The seventh annual awards program recognizes businesses and nonprofit and civic organizations in unincorporated areas that are reducing waste, recycling, composting or buying recycled materials.
County waste management officials hope the recognition--which includes vinyl window decals and congratulatory letters from elected officials--will inspire others to step up waste-reduction efforts.
“We need business leaders who are reducing waste to set the example for others,” said Victoria Hand, manager of the department’s recycling division.
