Bhutto Faces 3 Counts of Corruption
Former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto has been charged with three counts of corruption, court officials said. The charges allege that Bhutto and her family illegally accumulated millions of dollars in cash and assets in Switzerland, Britain and France, said an official with the commission investigating the allegations. Hearings on the charges will begin Monday in Lahore, officials said. Bhutto was ousted in November 1996 amid allegations of rampant corruption, economic mismanagement and abuse of power. She has denied all charges and has accused Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s government of waging a campaign to destroy her political career.
