El Toro Stuns Top-Seeded Crescenta Valley
LAKE FOREST — Amy Everett, scoreless for 31 minutes 58 seconds, took a pass from Gioconda Mendiola and made a layup in the final two seconds as unseeded host El Toro (27-2) shocked top-seeded La Crescenta Crescenta Valley, 63-61, in a Division I-AA girls’ basketball quarterfinal game Saturday at El Toro.
Standout Michelle Greco scored 27 points for Crescenta Valley (24-3), including a 15-foot jumper with 18 seconds left to tie the score, 61-61.
Guiliana Mendiola scored 13 of her 21 points in the fourth quarter.
El Toro will face Long Beach Wilson Tuesday in the semifinals.
