GIRLS’ HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL PLAYOFFS

Fullerton Troy 56, Bellflower 52--Sarah Spencer’s put-back of a missed Veronica Johns’ shot with 53 seconds left broke a 52-52 tie and led Troy to the semifinal victory at La Habra.

The Buccaneers had an opportunity to tie the game with 27 seconds left, but Tiffany Amete missed the front end of a one-and-one.

Troy also missed a free throw with 19 seconds left.

Bellflower’s Chaunita Smith, who led all scorers with 32 points, missed a tying field-goal try with nine seconds left and Spencer rebounded. She made both free throws with seven seconds left to clinch the victory.
