$1.8-Million Contract Awarded for Gym at Center
The Department of Recreation and Parks accepted a $1.8-million bid from a Pasadena-based construction company to build a gym at the Palisades Recreation Center, officials said.
Guy Construction was awarded the contract for the gym, which includes an indoor basketball court, said Kurt Toppel, co-chairman of the Pali Community Center Committee.
It took almost two years to secure funding for the project, he said.
Residents contributed $750,000, $1 million came from Proposition A, which matches private money with public funds, and $400,000 from Proposition K, which allocates public money to improve park and recreation facilities, Toppel said.
The construction of the gym is scheduled to begin in April and finish a year later.
