Northridge Floors Santa Barbara
Junior Mosones tied his career high with 30 kills and Cal State Northridge rallied to upset 10th-ranked UC Santa Barbara, 10-15, 8-15, 15-7, 15-6, 15-4, in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men’s volleyball match Tuesday night at Northridge.
Chad Strickland added 29 kills and 14 digs for the Matadors (4-10, 2-10).
Mosones posted a career-best hitting percentage of .462.
Adam Black had 18 kills and Mark Lee added 11 kills and 17 digs for the Matadors (4-10, 2-10).
SOFTBALL
Cal Lutheran 9-1, Augustin 0-0--Julie Gerughty’s single scored Erin Bates from third in the seventh inning to give the Regals a sweep at Cal Lutheran.
Cal Lutheran (5-7) won the first game in five innings. Donna Scott had three hits, including a two-run home run and a run-scoring single, and Wendy Jackson added a run-scoring triple and a run-scoring single.
Moorpark 4, Glendale 1--Corinne Long had three hits for the Raiders (1-8) in a Western State Conference victory at Moorpark.
Canyons 4, Rio Hondo 0--Andrea Wintermute hit a two-run single and Stacy Champy (4-3) pitched a two-hitter with nine strikeouts at Rio Hondo.
Crystal Curran and Kristy Frye hit run-scoring singles for the Cougars (4-4).
WOMEN’S TENNIS
Moorpark 5, Santa Barbara 4--Anne Marie Batur defeated Brook Francis, 3-6, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 1 singles and Katie Bradley defeated Connie Schecker, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 3 singles to help the Raiders win a WSC match at Moorpark.
Batur and Bradley also helped post doubles victories for the Raiders (1-2, 1-2).
Hancock 6, Ventura 3--Freshmen Laila Bush and Aime Hull accounted for all the Pirates’ points in a WSC loss at Hancock.
Bush defeated Lori Tomooka, 6-4, 2-6, 6-3, at No. 1 singles while Hull downed Lorrie Skinner, 7-5, 6-3, at No. 2 singles.
Bush and Hull beat Tomooka and Tiffany Belotti, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 3 doubles for Ventura (3-1, 2-1).
MEN’S GOLF
Sacramento State Invitational--Ryan Fowlkes tied for 20th with a three-round total of 14-over-par 230 for Cal State Northridge, which had a three-round total of 927 and finished eighth at Rancho Murieta Country Club.
