Pier Renovation Work to Begin Before Summer, Officials Say
With spring less than a month away and warmer weather on the horizon, city officials are hoping the long-planned improvements for the Hermosa Beach Pier can finally get underway.
The City Council is scheduled to review design plans for the pier within weeks, including resurfacing the pier deck and the plaza area. Officials hope construction will begin before summer.
The first phase of the renovation, scheduled to be completed by summer’s end, will include earthquake retrofitting. The second phase will include a new lifeguard station and the new plaza area.
The $4.5-million renovation is being funded largely by Proposition A, a 1992 voter-approved bond measure that provides funds to improve parks and beach access.
