SOUTHERN SECTION

In Division V-AA boys’ basketball:

Pacific Hills 82, Santa Clara 76--Santa Clara High battled back from an 11-point third-quarter deficit to force overtime, but like many of their shots from the free-throw line, the Saints fell short at the Bren Center.

“One game we make ‘em, and the next one we don’t. It’s really frustrating,” said Santa Clara center Ryan McGill, who missed two free throws with 47.5 seconds left and the Saints trailing, 67-65.

Even B.J. Ward, who finished with a game-high 34 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, missed one of two attempts with 17.1 seconds left.

Compton Dominguez 41, Glendora St. Lucy’s 32--Taller, bigger and quicker, third-seeded Compton Dominguez ran to a title at the Pyramid.

In Division III-A girls’ basketball:

North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake 45, Inglewood Morningside 41--Top-seeded Harvard-Westlake (26-5) took advantage of two late technical fouls and made six free throws in the final 70 seconds.

The third-seeded Monarchs were called for having an incorrect number listed in their scorebook and for a fan who threw a cup of ice onto the court in protest of the first technical.

In Division V boys’ soccer:

San Bernardino Aquinas 1, Chadwick 0--Justin Wells’ diving header off a free kick from Jose Dumond in the 62nd minute gave third-seeded Aquinas (24-1-1) the Division V title over Chadwick (8-12-6).
