Alberto Sartoris; Avant-Garde Architect

Alberto Sartoris, 97, Swiss pioneer of avant-garde architecture. A contemporary of Le Corbusier, Sartoris created such unusual designs that many were rejected by building regulators or radically changed by clients. He once said that he had designed more than 800 projects but that only 50 were built. He taught at the Institute of Technology in Lausanne, lectured in Europe and the United States, and published several books including “Elements of Functional Architecture” and “Encyclopedia of the New Architecture.” On Sunday in Pompaples, Switzerland.
