Chapman Gives Softball Co-Coach His 500th Victory

Dawn Lopez had two hits and four runs batted in to lead Chapman past Westminster (Mo.), 13-2, in the Sun West softball tournament Friday at Camino Real Park.

The victory gives Panthers’ co-Coach Lisle Lloyd his 500th victory. Lloyd (500-299-2) has coached 15 season at Chapman, the last three as co-head coach with daughter Janet Lloyd.

Lacee Rashi had two hits and three RBIs for Chapman. Katie Smithson pitched four innings of relief for her second victory.

In other tournament action, Shannon Carlson had two hits and five RBIs as Chapman (10-0) defeated Blackburn (Ill.), 11-0, in a game shortened because of the mercy rule. Pitcher Linsey Buendia (2-0) gave up six hits and struck out six in five innings.

In Big West Conference baseball:

Cal State Fullerton 16, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo 2--Reed Johnson drove in seven runs, four with a grand slam in the Titans’ five-run eighth inning. Johnson, the leadoff hitter, had three hits and scored three runs.

Greg Jacobs had three hits, scored twice and had four RBIs for Fullerton (16-6, 4-0), ranked 14th by Collegiate Baseball. Chris Beck had two hits and three RBIs.

Titan starter Erasmo Ramirez pitched eight innings, giving up five hits with eight strikeouts, for his third victory of the season.

Steve Wood and Matt Bailey each had two hits for San Luis Obispo (6-18, 0-4).

In nonconference men’s tennis:

UC Irvine 7, Pennsylvania 0--David Chang and Nick Varvais remained undefeated for Irvine (6-7), with their 8-3 doubles victory.

In nonconference women’s tennis:

Cal State Fullerton 5, San Jose State 3--Fullerton’s doubles teams won, 8-2 and 8-4, to lift the Titans (5-7). In singles, Eleanor Luzano, Debbie Vonusa and Alejandra Arredondo also won for Fullerton. San Jose State is 6-3.
