Pearson’s Three-Pointer Lifts Shasta to Victory
OAKLAND — Sophomore guard Katelyn Pearson hit a three-point shot with 50 seconds left to lead Redding Shasta to a 51-49 victory over Fair Oaks Del Campo Saturday in the Northern California Regional Division II girls’ championship game.
Despite losing star senior point guard Tracey Kenyon to an ankle injury less than two minutes into the game, Del Campo got three first-half three-pointers from her replacement, junior Renee Lucena, to take a 31-19 halftime lead.
But Shasta (28-2) made a run in the third quarter behind Sephora Scoubes, and tied the score, 42-42, midway through the fourth quarter.
After Pearson’s dramatic shot, Del Campo (30-5) had opportunities to tie. An inbounds pass with two seconds left was intercepted.
