Speakers to Address Gang Violence Issue
Hoping to help curb a spate of recent high school gang attacks, Oxnard’s Commission of Community Relations is scheduled to take up the issue of gangs and the law tonight.
The citizens panel will host two speakers on gang violence: Gustavo Castro, a social worker who has counseled gang members, and Jorge Alvarado, a local attorney who represents victims of gang assaults.
The panel, which advises city officials on social issues, is focusing on gang violence at a time when a spate of youth violence has hit Ventura County--including a recent knife attack on two Rio Mesa High School students.
The commission meets at 6 p.m. in City Council chambers, 305 W. 3rd St. For more information, call 385-7434.
