Campaign Contribution Cap Could Rise
FOUNTAIN VALLEY — A $100 limit on City Council campaign contributions could be increased tonight. Council members will consider reestablishing the previous $500 cap, which was reduced in 1996 when statewide voters approved Proposition 208. Federal court rulings on sections of the referendum invalidate the limits for cities the size of Fountain Valley.
The council already gave preliminary approval to the proposal this month. Limits would go into effect before the November election, when candidates will compete for three open seats.
