Forum Scheduled on Careers for Women
Women who want to explore professions that are usually dominated by men are invited to attend “What Your Mother Didn’t Tell You: Dynamite Careers For Women” at the Hyatt Westlake Plaza.
Four women who have forged successful nontraditional careers will tell their stories and take questions from the audience.
After the forum, participants will be able to discuss job opportunities with representatives and recruiters from area companies.
The March 30 program is sponsored by the women’s mentor program at Cal Lutheran University and American Express financial advisors.
“I’d like to see women latch onto each other and be more supportive in building each other’s careers,” said event organizer Vicki Arndt, a financial planner scheduled to speak at the event.
“Men have always networked on the golf course or conducted business in men’s clubs. Women need to be more savvy about mentoring each other and making contacts.”
Arndt’s employer, American Express, donated $4,000 to fund the event.
Other speakers include Kathy Kemp, Thousand Oaks chief of police; Cheryl Richmond, commercial real estate broker; and Susie Shore, accountant with an information systems consulting firm.
The program will begin at 7 p.m. College students will be admitted free; there is a $5 fee for others. Participants are asked to register by March 25 by calling 493-3193.
