FRONTIER LEAGUE
Calabasas has a 47-game league unbeaten streak that is almost certain to end in the near future. The Coyotes return only three starters and have struggled out of the gate, but the returnees--Matt Jackson, Tom Lookabill and Marc Wilson--are strong. Jackson, a senior pitcher, is 11-0 at the varsity level and last season was picked to the All-Section Division IV second team. Wilson, a senior second baseman, earned all-league and all-county honors and Lookabill, a senior pitcher-outfielder, was 3-0. . . . The league’s best team is Moorpark, which returns seven starters. Senior outfielder Chris Doan batted .484 and was an all-league and all-county pick last year. Shortstop Wes Rasmussen and catcher Taylor Slimak are junior standouts and senior Brian Gilbert is the No. 1 pitcher despite missing last season because of injury. . . . Nordhoff returns eight starters, six of them seniors, from its best team in years. Noah Lowery had a 1.37 ERA, best among pitchers in the region with a minimum of 30 innings. . . . Santa Paula returns senior Willie Zavala, who batted .403 with 15 RBIs. . . . Santa Clara’s best returning starter is senior outfielder Ryan Baker (.302, 18 RBIs).
