$30,000 Raised for Mary Bono Campaign
COSTA MESA — Congressional candidate Mary Bono, a Republican from Palm Springs, raised about $30,000 for her campaign at a cocktail party Monday night at the headquarters of Orange County developer George L. Argyros.
The $500-per-person affair attracted film star Arnold Schwarzenegger, who was listed as the special guest, said Argyros aide Bruce Nestande.
Mary Bono, 36, is seeking to succeed her husband, Rep. Sonny Bono, who died in a skiing accident in January.
Bono’s late husband used Orange County as a frequent fund-raising stop during his campaigns, and Argyros is well known as a Republican fund-raising powerhouse.
An additional tie is that Brian Nestande, who served as Bono’s chief of staff, is the son of Argyros lieutenant Bruce Nestande.
Also at Monday’s event was Noel Irwin Hentschel, who is running for lieutenant governor, and Lisa Hughes, who is seeking the GOP nomination to run against Rep. Loretta Sanchez (D-Garden Grove).
