Commander From LAPD Named New Police Chief
Los Angeles Police Department Cmdr. Richard LeGarra has accepted an offer to become Baldwin Park’s new police chief.
LeGarra, who oversees more than 500 detectives as the head of the LAPD’s Detective Service Group, said he expects to begin his new job in May after a background check.
“In a career in law enforcement, becoming a police chief is the ultimate reward,” LeGarra said. “I am committed to Baldwin Park.” LeGarra, 55, will become Baldwin Park’s first permanent police chief in more than 18 months.
After 32 years with the LAPD, LeGarra said he wants to serve a community near his home in Hacienda Heights. He said his primary goal is to increase Baldwin Park’s emphasis on community policing.
