Ground Broken for Neighborhood Park
Local officials have broken ground for construction of a neighborhood park in Newbury Park’s Dos Vientos Ranch housing development.
The 5-acre park is at Lynn Road and Via Andrea, within walking distance of homes under construction. The park will include a sand volleyball and basketball court, toddler play area as well as picnic tables and benches.
“We want to get the park open at the same time the homes are finished,” said Tom Sorensen, parks and planning administrator of the Conejo Recreation and Park District. “We hope the park will be a selling point for the homes.”
The park will open in about six months, allowing for a three-month construction phase and three-month “grow-in” period. Sorensen said a park that size normally costs about $500,000 to build.
Plans for Dos Vientos Ranch required a park, and the developer will fund the park’s construction, Sorensen said.
