BOYS’ ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Justin Fargas
SCHOOL: Notre Dame
YEAR: Senior
SPORT: Track and field
SEASON AT A GLANCE: Fargas, the defending state champion in the 100 meters, has run 10.55 seconds in that event, a hand-timed 21.4 in the 200 and helped Notre Dame to a region-leading 42.19 in the 400 relay.
WEEK AT A GLANCE: Fargas ran a personal best of 10.55 in the 100 to defeat a stellar field in the Pasadena Games at Occidental College on Saturday. The time was the fastest in the state this year and gave Fargas a comfortable victory over Pasadena Muir’s Sultan McCullough (10.63), Alemany’s Miguel Fletcher (10.79) and Santa Ana Mater Dei’s Mike McNair (10.89). Fargas avenged a loss to Fletcher in the Northridge-Alemany Relays at Cal State Northridge on March 14. “I was just trying to run the best race I could,” Fargas said Saturday. “I didn’t run the best race I could at Northridge. I did today.”
