Henry Brill; Charter Member of Directors Guild
Henry “Bud” Brill, 84, a charter member of the Directors Guild of America and an assistant director on such monumental films as Frank Capra’s “You Can’t Take It With You,” “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington” and “Meet John Doe.” Brill was among the first assistant directors to join the guild after its formation in 1936 and over the years was involved with “The Ten Commandments,” “Shane,” “The Talk of the Town,” “The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance” and many more. In addition to Capra, he assisted Cecil B. DeMille, George Stevens, Howard Koch, Sidney Lumet and John Ford. In 1987 he received the guild’s Frank Capra Achievement Award in honor of his work and service to the guild. In Thousand Oaks on April 16.
