Applications for the Los Angeles County Junior Lifeguard Program will be accepted beginning today.
The applications will be available at any lifeguard station at Avalon, Cabrillo, Torrance, Redondo, Hermosa, Manhattan, Venice, Santa Monica, Will Rogers and Zuma beaches, said program Director Bill Harkins.
Applications will be accepted through June 20. The six-week classes start June 29.
About 2,000 youths, ages 9 to 17, are expected to participate in the program. They will receive instruction in water safety, swimming, surfing, skin diving, physical conditioning, first aid and lifesaving skills, and use of professional lifeguarding tools and rescue equipment.
