Fox, from Newport Harbor High, was one of many talented Golden West players overshadowed by co-state tournament MVPs Casey Jennings and Scott Lane. But Fox was as solid as usual in helping the Rustlers to their fourth consecutive state title Saturday. Fox, who had 10 kills in the 15-7, 15-5, 15-13 victory over Santa Barbara in the title match, made the all-tournament team.

* Golden West, sophomore. He set a national record in the 200 butterfly in 1 minute 47.91 seconds at the South Coast Conference championships.

Orange Coast, Sophomore
Track & Field
Martinez, from Estancia High, had to get used to running alone at the Orange Empire Conference track championships. She won three events and was never really challenged. She set an school record in the 10,000 meters, winning in 38 minutes 53 seconds. She was 37 seconds ahead of second place. She was 32 seconds in front in winning the 5,000 in 18:31 won the 3,000 in 10:26, which was seven seconds better than second place.
Softball
Marisa Ornelas
* Fullerton, sophomore. She had at least one hit in three games to extend her hitting streak to 21 games.
