Here’s 50 Million Reasons to Investigate Northridge

In 1996, $28.5 million and $22.8 million were raised at San Diego State and Long Beach State, respectively. That kind of money could have prevented the temporary cutting of baseball and three other men’s sports at Cal State Northridge in June 1997 because of a nearly $800,000 budget deficit. A vice president for fund-raising could have raised $25 million during the past several years at Northridge but administrators would not hire one. It’s time for an impartial investigation of why it took until December 1997 for Northridge to hire a vice president for fund-raising. The Northridge baseball team should be going to the College World Series this year, but potential All-Americans lost faith in the program and left.
