City to Celebrate 40th Birthday With Parade, Other Festivities

In celebration of its 40th birthday, Pico Rivera on Saturday is having a huge anniversary parade that will have numerous bands, floats and drill teams.

The parade, honoring the merger in 1958 of two towns, Pico and Rivera, begins at 10 a.m. at Passons Boulevard and Rivera Road and ends at Smith Park, where there will be a street fair.

Comedian Paul Rodriguez will be the grand marshal and actress Lupe Ontiveros, who was in the movie “As Good as It Gets” and has lived in Pico-Rivera for decades, will be the special celebrity guest.

Parade organizers said there will be 10 bands, equestrian groups, antique autos, and drill teams. Officials from Pico-Rivera’s sister city, San Luis Potosi, Mexico, will also participate in the celebration.
