PREP SWIMMING ROUNDUP
In Century League boys’ finals;
Foothill wins--James Thornton of Foothill won the 200 freestyle in 1:44.24 as Foothill captured the league championship with 541 points. Villa Park finished second with 510 1/2 points.
Thornton also won the 500 freestyle in 4:42.73.
El Modena’s Toyo Tsujino won the 100 butterfly (51.95), the 100 backstroke (51.75), and was named league swimmer of the year.
In the Empire League Finals:
Benson leads El Dorado--Senior Brett Benson swam a 21.56 in the 50 free and a 48.15 in the 100 free for El Dorado, which won the league title. Mike Tse won the 100 butterfly (53.56) and 100 backstroke (55.0) for Kennedy.
In the Freeway League:
Sunny Hills wins--Hiro Sakoda won the 100 butterfly (51.26) and 500 freestyle (4:56.98) and Erik Hansen took the 200 freestyle (1:51.34) and 100 backstroke (58.28) for Sunny Hills.
In the South Coast League:
Mission Viejo wins--Mission Viejo won its 18th league title. Attila Szilagyi won the 500 freestyle in 4:46.84.
In Century League girls’ swimming:
Villa Park wins fourth title--Despite winning only three events, the Spartans clinched their fourth consecutive league title.
Villa Park freshman Cindy Henn won the 100 backstroke in 1:04.13. Henn was also was part of both winning Villa Park relay teams, the 200 freestyle (1:44.77) and 400 freestyle (3:47.18).
Orange’s Shannon Flahive won the 200 individual medley (2:12.60) and the 100 breaststroke (1:07.34) and was named league swimmer of the year.
In the Empire League:
El Dorado wins--Jessamyn Grewal won the 200 IM (2:18.64) and the 100 breaststroke (1:10.52) for league champion El Dorado. Freshman Riana Brown won the 200 (2:07.38) and 500 freestyle (5:40.62), also for El Dorado.
