How About Some Constructive Action?
Re Sandy Banks’ column, “When Shoe’s on the Other Foot, It Hurts” (April 17): Banks’ candor and insight deserve commendation.
It is becoming clear that scrapping affirmative action will not be the simple solution to the university entrance issue. It behooves all Californians to think hard and come up with constructive solutions that will be fair to all. We need solutions that will not cast aspersions on some of our people or victimize or make scapegoats of others.
To students who find it hard to enter the university of their choice, I say, don’t fall on your sword on account of it. Make a second choice. And make the most of that one. In life we do not always get exactly what we want. Wisdom teaches that if life offers an egg, make an omelet.
