Forum Will Explain How Courts Work
People interested in learning how a case moves through the courts and who the players are in the local justice system can attend a question-and-answer forum May 20 in Ventura.
The forum will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Ventura City Council chambers, 501 Poli St. It will be broadcast live by cable companies throughout the county. People who cannot attend may submit questions by calling 654-7830.
The forum’s panel will include representatives from the Court of Appeal, criminal and juvenile courts, the office of the district attorney and public defender, sheriff’s and police departments, the CHP, private attorneys and probation.
The panel will not discuss specific cases, said Vince Ordonez Jr., assistant executive officer of the Ventura County Coordinated Courts.
Forums are also planned June 15 in Camarillo and in Spanish on July 9 in Oxnard.
“We believe that these forums are helping the public have a better understanding of the process,” Ordonez explained.
