Top 10 Responses

In last week’s Prep Extra, we listed our Top 10 high school athletic teams of all time and invited readers to make their own nominations for the list. Some responses:

* John Schicker of Orange nominated the 1996 Mater Dei softball team. That team was Southern Section Division I champion and South Coast League champion.

* Michael Caro of Newport Beach nominated the 1967 Newport Harbor boys’ tennis team. The Sailors, Caro among them, went undefeated and beat Santa Monica for a Southern Section title.

* Irvine girls’ swimming Coach Scott Hinman nominated his 1998 team, even though its season isn’t over.

* Jose Vega of Placentia nominated Valencia’s 1991 and ’92 football teams, which won back-to-back Division VI championships.
