In Brief
*** Various artists, “Will Sing For Food--The Songs of Dwight Yoakam,” Little Dog. With proceeds going to the homeless, this benefit album puts Yoakam’s empathy for the broken-hearted and the broken-spirited center stage in consistently strong readings by Gillian Welch, Kim Richey, Lonesome Strangers and a dozen more. Standouts include David Ball’s ultra honky-tonk “This Time” and Tim O’Brien’s hauntingly spare “Thousand Miles From Nowhere.”
