Quincy Wright is headed to New Mexico on a football scholarship, but the El Camino Real High standout isn’t sure if he wants to give up track at the collegiate level after his performance in the City Section championships at Birmingham High on Thursday.
Wright, a tailback who rushed for 2,146 yards and scored 29 touchdowns in leading El Camino Real to the City 3-A Division football title last year, won the 100 meters in a wind-aided 10.54 seconds and placed second in the 200 in a school record 21.26 in the City meet.
His victory in the 100 was the first by an El Camino Real sprinter and his time in the 200 moved him to seventh on the all-time region performer list.
“Football will always be my first sport,” Wright said. “But after today, I’m going to give some more thought to track. . . . I mean, if I can compete at this level, I’d like to see what I could do at that level.”
