Water District
Your Oct. 27 edition included an article discussing Las Virgenes Municipal Water District being fined $70,000 for illegally discharging 19.2 million gallons of reclaimed water into Malibu Creek, in violation of its state permit (“District Fined for Release of Treated Water”).
Couldn’t they ask their reclaimed water customers--not just public agencies--to use additional water at a reduced price rather than pay a fine? Do they have such a poor relationship with their customers that none of them could assist them during this time of need? It appears that continued poor planning will result in another fine for the month of October.
Paying a fine does not reflect exceptional leadership by the board of directors to implement alternatives. . . . During this election period, consideration of new leadership would seem necessary for the benefit of the water-using customers, who are the ones actually paying the $70,000-plus fine.
