* Re “Space Age Pioneer Glenn Returns to Orbit,” Oct. 30: John Glenn is a thoroughly admirable fellow, but his trip into space is an obvious ploy by the manned-space bureaucracy to keep the big bucks flowing from Congress. Enough, already!

Good for Glenn, but let’s keep it in prospective. Even legends don’t last long. I too am from Ohio and was substitute teaching at John Glenn High School a couple of years ago. I asked students in several classes: What year was the Glenn launch? They looked at me like I was from outer space and admitted they didn’t know.
