Boy Hit by Truck Still in Critical State
A 12-year-old boy struck by an oil tanker while bicycling on the wrong side of the road remained in critical but stable condition Tuesday at UC Irvine Medical Center, authorities said.
Police said the boy, riding along Brookhurst Street, was wearing a helmet but suffered massive head and chest injuries. Police withheld his name.
The truck driver told police he never saw the boy riding against traffic about 4:30 p.m. Saturday until he felt his semi strike something as he tried to turn right onto Trask Avenue, Garden Grove Police Lt. John Woods said.
“I guess [the boy] thought he could get around him,” Woods said.
