Ten County Teams Are Seeded
Ten Orange County teams were seeded in their respective divisions when the girls’ volleyball playoff pairings were released Sunday by the Southern Section office.
First-round games start Tuesday with defending Division I-AA champion and top-seeded Newport Harbor (18-0) hosting Downey Warren (6-4) and Division V-AA No. 1-seeded St. Margaret’s (16-0) hosting Linfield Christian (12-6).
Mater Dei (12-3), top seeded in Division II-AA, opens Thursday, hosting the winner of Tuesday’s wild-card match between Rubidoux (7-9) and Hesperia Sultana (12-4). In Division II-A, top-seeded La Habra (15-1) plays at home Thursday against winner of Tuesday’s Norwalk John Glenn (18-4)-Redondo Beach Redondo Union (7-7) match.
Capistrano Valley (17-1) was seeded third in Division I-AA and hosts Bell Gardens (6-9) Tuesday.
Defending Division I-A and state Division I champion Marina (15-1) is seeded second and will open Tuesday by hosting the winner of tonight’s wild-card match between host Cerritos (15-7) and Sunny Hills (12-9).
Defending champion Santa Margarita (9-4), seeded second in Division II-AA, hosts Kennedy (12-4) Thursday.
Last year’s Division III-A and state Division III champion, Ocean View (14-2 ), was seeded third in Division III-AA and hosts Western (11-5) Thursday.
Corona del Mar (7-7) finished fourth in the tough Sea View League but nonetheless was seeded third in Division III-A. Corona del Mar hosts Costa Mesa (8-8) Thursday.
Third-seeded Calvary Chapel (12-2) hosts Downey St. Matthias (9-4) Thursday in Division IV-AA.
