Arena Developers Get OK to Add Parking Sites

Seeking to secure enough parking for the new downtown sports arena, developers of the project won approval Friday to acquire several new sites for parking lots.

The Los Angeles City Council voted unanimously to allow the developers to take the properties, which are outside the original designated area for the Staples Center. Developers said they need the lots because, as anticipated, they could not acquire a piece of property owned by Bank of America.

Under terms of the original agreement for the center--to be the new home for the Los Angeles Kings and Lakers--developers could ask the council to approve alternative parking sites.
