Dressed for Beach Access : OCMA Supporters Preview More Than 100 Photos of Fashion Fit for the Sand

The beach is where almost anything goes--on and off your body.

That’s the impression you might get after checking out the more than 100 fashion-oriented photos with sun, surf and sand as their theme on display at the Orange County Museum of Art.

The “Fashion at the Beach” exhibit, through Jan. 3, shows a range of images, from Jacques-Henri Lartigue’s revolutionary ones in the ‘20s--he had the breakthrough thought to use the French Riviera as a backdrop--to the more casual, modern photographs by Herb Ritts and Bruce Weber.

There are celeb cheesecake photos and fashion mag spreads, in color and in black and white, all compiled by the Bass Museum of Art in Miami Beach.

At Friday’s preview reception, supporters made their way though the galleries, followed by waiters with trays of martinis and models dressed in skin-revealing resort-wear from Faconnable in Costa Mesa.

The museum is also offering classes in connection with the show.

There’s “Secrets of Photography,” where adults learn basic photo techniques and composition (through Oct. 24), and “Art After School: Fashion Illustration” for children (through Dec. 9).

The museum is at 850 San Clemente Drive, Newport Beach. Open 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. $5. Call (949) 759-1122 or visit the Web site at https://www.ocartsnet.org/ocma
