Tall Tater
Flora Kitchen’s potato pie turns the lowly spud into something you’d love to take home for dinner. Russet potatoes are sliced thin, seasoned with thyme and layered inside a puff pastry crust. When the pie is half done, cream is poured through a hole in the top, and baking continues until the crust is golden and the potatoes are tender.
The pie is so tall that one slice makes a big serving. Pay a little extra, and the restaurant will add a salad of organic greens with mustard seed vinaigrette and a chunk of baguette.
Potato pie, $3.95 a slice, $5.95 with salad and bread, at Flora Kitchen, 460 S. La Brea Ave., Los Angeles (213) 931-9900.
