Dana Hills Rallies to Beat Diablos
Dana Hills rallied from a two-game deficit to defeat Mission Viejo, 4-15, 12-15, 15-9, 15-11, 15-10, in a South Coast League girls’ volleyball match Tuesday at Dana Hills.
Jennifer Rizzo had 14 kills, Lauren Henderson had 13 and Lauren Boissevain had 30 assists for the Dolphins (5-4, 2-3). Mission Viejo (1-4 in league) is ranked 10th in Division I-A.
In another South Coast League match:
Capistrano Valley 3, San Clemente 0--Rochelle Currier had 17 kills, Becky Warnick had 15, Kristin Gallup had 12 and Andrea Delfigne had 48 assists for Capistrano Valley (13-0, 5-0), which won, 18-16, 15-11, 15-8.
In the Century League:
Canyon 3, Villa Park 0--Regan Riewerts had 13 kills and teammate Megan O’Neill had 24 assists for Canyon, which won, 15-10, 15-11, 15-8. Canyon is 8-4, 3-2.
In the Empire League:
Cypress 3, El Dorado 0--Dusty Creager had 20 kills and Amanda Sellers had eight for Cypress (7-3, 5-0), which won, 15-12, 15-8, 15-5.
In the Express League:
Liberty Christian 3, Palos Verdes Rolling Hills Prep 0--Crissy Davis had 10 kills in the 15-10, 15-7, 15-7 victory for visiting Liberty Christian (10-1, 5-0). Felicia Jao had 25 assists for Liberty Christian, ranked fifth in Division V-A.
In the Garden Grove League:
La Quinta 3, Bolsa Grande 0--Heidi Foster had 13 kills, Bonny Shum had eight and Becky Yong served three aces for first-place La Quinta (11-1, 8-0), which won, 15-7, 15-7, 15-5. Debbie Baeder had seven kills for Bolsa Grande (10-3, 6-2).
In the Orange League:
Valencia 3, Magnolia 0--Katie Eatherton and Monika Jackley each had 10 kills in the 15-4, 15-4, 15-3 victory for Valencia (9-2, 5-0).
In the Pacific Coast League:
Laguna Beach 3, University 2--Katie Brandt had 25 kills, bringing her season total to 241, a University single-season record. Brandt topped Camille Robles’ record of 215 set last year. Julia Topik had 51 assists for University (9-6, 4-1). Laguna Beach (5-0 in league) won, 15-9, 15-3, 11-15, 6-15, 15-12.
In the Sea View League:
Newport Harbor 3, Corona del Mar 0--April Ross had 11 kills in the 15-8, 15-5, 15-6 victory for Newport Harbor (9-0, 5-0), top-ranked in Division I-AA.
In the Sunset League:
Esperanza 3, Fountain Valley 0--Laura St. John had nine kills and setter Toni Anderson had 34 assists for Esperanza (8-3, 4-1), which won, 15-4, 15-6, 15-7. Esperanza is ranked seventh in Division I-AA. Natalie Snowden had 11 kills for the Barons (2-9, 2-3).
Marina 3, Los Alamitos 1--Marina, ranked second in Division I-A, couldn’t hold a lead in the first game and lost 11-15, but took commanding leads in each of the last three to put away the Griffins, 15-8, 15-6, 15-13. The Griffins (5-6, 0-5) were led by Phelan Wright with 15 kills and Stephanie Gamst with 32 assists. Chanda McLeod had 18 kills for Marina (8-1, 5-0).
Huntington Beach 3, Edison 0--Kelly Brockman had 16 kills to lead Huntington Beach in the 15-8, 15-7, 15-10 victory. Amber McCarthy added 38 assists for the visiting Oilers (6-6, 3-2), ranked ninth in Division II-AA.
Edison is 3-8, 1-4.
