Shaw Close to Decision on Dodgers

Dodger pitcher Jeff Shaw, who has strongly considered requesting a trade, is now leaning toward remaining with the ballclub, and his decision is expected early next week, his agent said Friday.

“We’ve had many good conversations with the Dodgers, especially in the last few days, and I think Jeff and Julie [Shaw’s wife] feel they have all the information they need to make a decision, probably by Monday or Tuesday,” said Joe Bick, Shaw’s representative.

“There are still some issues that need to be worked out, some things we’re still looking at, so I wouldn’t go so far as to say anything is definite yet.

“But I think it’s safe to say he’s going in that direction [remaining with the team].”

Shaw, as a player traded with a multiyear contract, can demand to be traded again, and the Ohio native has said he wants to work closer to his wife and children next season.

The Dodgers are prepared to renegotiate Shaw’s contract to place him among the game’s highest-paid closers.

The club will offer Shaw, who is scheduled to make $2.8 million annually for the next three seasons, as much $5 million annually in a revised deal.
