Titans Blank San Luis Obispo in Soccer
Colby Jackson and Duncan Oughton each scored two goals to lead Cal State Fullerton to a 5-0 victory over Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men’s soccer game Friday at Fullerton.
Jackson scored two first-half goals and assisted on one of Oughton’s goals, as the Titans (11-4-1, 4-1) took a 4-0 halftime lead. Jackson scored in the 14th and 37th minute.
Antonio Martinez led off the scoring for Fullerton with a goal in the seventh minute.
Oughton’s goals came in the 23rd and the 63rd minute. Oughton also assisted on Jackson’s first goal.
San Luis Obispo is 8-5-2, 3-2.
In nonconference women’s soccer:
UC San Diego 2, Chapman 0--Cindy Dostalek scored in the 48th minute and Shelbi Thiele scored four minutes later for UC San Diego (12-2-1). Kim Rudloff made 12 saves for Chapman (10-7-2).
In women’s tennis:
Chappell advances--UC Irvine’s Darian Chappell advanced to the third round of the Cal State Fullerton Women’s Fall Tennis Tournament, defeating Kendra Segura of Cal State Northridge.
Chappell, who had a first-round bye, defeated Segura, 6-0, 6-0, in singles. Segura defeated Irvine’s Amber Christiansen, 6-0, 6-0, in the first round.
Irvine’s Natalie Exon also advanced with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over teammate Mai Nguyen.
Fullerton’s Amy Medlin defeated Irvine’s Darcy Down, 6-0, 6-2, and advances with teammates Summer Tantee and Eleanor Luzano.
Tantee defeated Irvine’s Liz Yim, 6-2, 7-6, and Luzano beat teammate Laurel McLatcher, 6-4, 6-1.
In Big West Conference women’s volleyball:
Long Beach State 3, UC Irvine 0--Long Beach, the nation’s top-ranked team, hit a season-high .585 in a 15-2, 15-0, 15-3 victory.
Misty May had 31 assists, seven digs and six kills for the 49ers (21-0, 11-0).
Tandie Wade led the Anteaters (8-18, 3-8) with eight kills. Teri Zartman had 15 assists and seven digs.
Pacific 3, Cal State Fullerton 0--Jennica Smith had 13 kills to lead Pacific, which won, 15-5, 15-7, 15-9. Pacific is 18-4, 9-2. Megan Sabo led CS Fullerton (7-15, 1-10) with 11 kills.
In Golden West Athletic Conference women’s volleyball:
Cal Baptist 3, Concordia 1--Concordia won the first game, 15-12, but lost the next three games, 6-15, 14-16, 5-15.
Junior Sarah Roberts had 14 kills to lead Concordia (15-14, 1-11). Amber Ainsworth had 18 kills to lead Cal Baptist (10-13, 4-7).
