TODAY’S GAMES
Fresno Clovis West (1-0) vs. No. 2 Mater Dei (0-0)
7 TONIGHT SANTA ANA STADIUM
The Monarchs call this their “Season of Reckoning.” It’s the last season in the South Coast League, and they have won or shared every league title since 1991. They want to reclaim the section Division I title Long Beach Poly took from them last year. And they have to do so without having what Coach Bruce Rollinson describes as “a game-breaker” in their lineup. They should find out where they stand in a hurry. The Golden Eagles used their wing-T offense to roll over Massillon (Ohio), 21-9, last Friday. Clovis West Coach Randy Blankenship used nine different running backs in the game and plans to do so again. “I might play three quarterbacks,” Blankenship said. Rollinson will start Scott Lukash at quarterback, but said Matt Grootegoed will also take some snaps. Mater Dei’s concern is keeping the defense from being worn down by Clovis West’s always-fresh attack.
