Carter’s Two Touchdowns Pace Fountain Valley Win

Aaron Carter caught six passes for 198 yards and two touchdowns to lead Fountain Valley to a 30-13 season-opening victory Friday night over Long Beach Wilson.

After a sluggish start offensively, the Barons took control of the tempo and dominated the second half.

“We made some halftime adjustments and played exceptionally hard on both sides of the ball,” Fountain Valley Head Coach George Berg said.

Long Beach Wilson committed three turnovers in the second half, two of which led to Fountain Valley touchdowns. Senior quarterback Ryan Breska, making his third varsity start, took control of the offense and completed eight of 17 passes for 209 yards, including a 59-yard touchdown to Carter.

Fountain Valley kept Wilson off balance with a 263-yard running attack that included touchdowns by Steven Fifita and Tyler Kruse. Adam Ramirez also tore through the Wilson defense for 108 yards in only eight carries.

“We took what they gave us and it paid off,” Berg said. “Our offense has so many weapons, we can count on almost anyone for a big night.”

Carlos Valasquez attempted to carry Long Beach Wilson, scoring two touchdowns. He gained 92 yards in 11 carries. Randy Gaither added 72 yards on the ground for the Bruins.

The game was a measure of revenge for Fountain Valley, which was defeated by Long Beach Wilson in the championship round at the Mission Viejo Passing League tournament in July.

Carter gave credit for his success Friday to the rest of his team.

“I do the easy part,” he said. “These guys work hard all year, from the line to the QB to the defense. Breska is amazing.

“I’m excited about this year. I know we have a great team.”
