Kennedy 40, Poly 32--The Golden Cougars held on despite a furious Poly rally that saw the Parrots score 20 unanswered points in the fourth quarter at Kennedy.
Jerome Williams rushed for 110 yards in 21 carries and scored on runs of one, one and two yards for the Golden Cougars, who built a 40-12 lead late after three quarters.
Poly’s Steve Smith rushed 17 times for 113 yards and scored on runs of 71 and 32 yards in the first half. Smith left the game early in the fourth quarter with a leg injury and did not return.
Harold Berreondo, who completed six of 10 passes for 93 yards, threw scoring passes of 16 and six yards to Rudy Rodriguez in the fourth quarter. David Valencia added a one-yard scoring run as the Parrots pulled to within 40-32 with 1:50 remaining. However, Poly’s ensuing onside kick was recovered by the Golden Cougars.
Kennedy’s Ruben Zaragoza completed 12 of 18 for 112 yards.
