Cyclist Struck, Killed by Van
A 38-year-old Bakersfield man out for an evening bicycle ride in Dana Point was struck and killed by a van, authorities said.
David Brian Simpson was driving home from a San Diego cycling event Friday when he decided to stop to ride his bike in Dana Point, Orange County coroner’s spokesman Rick McAnally said. He was struck about 7 p.m. while riding along Pacific Coast Highway north of Camino Capistrano, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department said.
The driver of the van was identified as Lynn Dague, a 56-year-old San Juan Capistrano man. No charges were filed, but the investigation is continuing, Sheriff’s Lt. Richard Paddock said.
