LETTER FROM THE EDITOR

Tomorrow is a big day for the Ventura County Edition of The Times. We’ve been working toward it all summer long.

With Monday’s edition, all Times readers in Ventura County will begin receiving Our Times, a five-day-a-week publication that will zero in on news in your community, wherever that happens to be.

Essentially, we are doubling our efforts and greatly expanding our resources here. You will still receive our own award-winning coverage of Ventura County in all the usual places in The Times. But you will be getting lots more hometown news as well in Our Times.

We started Ventura County’s first Our Times in April in the Conejo Valley and nearby communities. It has been so popular that we are now adding two more--one for readers in Simi Valley and Moorpark and the other Our Times for our west county readers.

This is a partnership in all the best ways. Our Times is a supplement to The Times published by Times Community News, a Times subsidiary. But Our Times and The Times are really one team. All our reporters, editors and photographers have the same mission--reporting the news in Ventura County more completely, more accurately and more compellingly than any rival paper.

Distributed free with The Times Monday through Friday, Our Times is a mix of everything from feisty coverage of local city halls and schools to reports on youth sports, local entertainment events and club news.

It’s a blend of the biggest and the smallest news in your hometown each day. You have told us you want more local news coverage. And this is our attempt to give it to you.

At the same time, we have been working hard to strengthen our high-impact countywide coverage of Ventura County. “The SOAR Debate,” a four-part Sunday series that starts today, is just one example of our continuing commitment to insightful reporting of important county issues--from politics to the environment, from schools to public safety.

Please give me a call at 653-7522 and let me know what you think of this new chapter in our history here. The Times is proud to be known as one of the best newspapers in the nation--and we are equally serious about being the best local paper on your block.
