Santa Paula 17, Village Christian 14--Morgan Montoya’s interception late in the fourth quarter preserved the victory for visiting Santa Paula at Kennedy High.

Ivan Mercado rushed for 77 yards in 24 carries and scored on a four-yard run to give the Cardinals a 7-0 first-quarter lead.

Santa Paula quarterback Chad Metelak completed 11 of 21 passes for 195 yards with one touchdown.

Village Christian’s Jason Stauffer returned interceptions 68 and 24 yards for touchdowns in the second half. Santa Paula limited the Crusaders to 40 total yards.

Adam Holiday’s 40-yard field goal midway through the second quarter gave the Cardinals a 17-0 lead.
