Is Goldmine Software Striking a Deal?
A news release Thursday sparked speculation that Goldmine Software Corp., the fast-growing Pacific Palisades software maker, will announce April 19 that it is planning a merger or first-time stock offering.
Speculation stemmed from a release the privately held company issued to the media saying that it planned a “major industry announcement” at the upcoming DCI Customer Relations Management Show in San Francisco.
Besides previewing a new product, some observers are expecting the company to announce plans for a merger, possibly with longtime partner Microsoft Corp. Others believe the company may be planning an initial public stock offering. Many tech-stock mavens have been waiting for a chance to buy into Goldmine, believing it could follow in the lucrative footsteps of some other recent hot IPOs.
Goldmine, which specializes in work-group-management software, was launched nine years ago in a Woodland Hills apartment. Gregg Steiner, company spokesman, would not comment Thursday on the speculation.
