LA PALMA
The City Council recently approved plans for a 60-unit affordable housing complex for seniors on two vacant Walker Street parcels. The project easily passed after a public hearing in which no residents expressed opposition, although a few had traffic and parking concerns.
The complex will include two apartment buildings, restricted to seniors over 62 who meet certain income guidelines, and a community center open to the public. While by law city officials cannot restrict residents of other cities from applying for an apartment, they are marketing the complex first to La Palma residents. Metropolitan Development could start construction immediately, officials said, and finish by spring 2000.
