Police Searches
Re “High Court Expands Police Power in Traffic Searches,” April 6: You do not have the right to free air at gas stations. It is a cost of owning a vehicle. You do not have the right to low gasoline prices. If the cost is too high, take the bus. You do not have the right to free ATM use. If you don’t want to pay the fees, use only your own bank’s ATM. You do not have the right to low-cost cable TV. If you don’t like the rates, don’t subscribe.
Wake up people, your rights as enumerated by the Bill of Rights, notably the 1st, 2nd and 4th amendments are being diluted and whittled away in the names of “political correctness,” “safety” and the failed war on drugs. What you do on your own time and with whom you do it is your business. These are the issues you should be concerned with. The others are nonissues designed by politicians to divert our attention away from the really important things. In the words of Benjamin Franklin, “They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.”
