Film Organizations, City Council, AARP to Discuss Ways to Fight Hollywood Ageism
Concern about ageism has pulled together several groups for a panel discussion.
Women in Film, the Screen Actors Guild, Actresses at Work, the American Assn. of Retired People and the West Hollywood City Council have organized “Ageism in Hollywood: Defining the Problem and Facilitating Change,” set for 6 to 10 p.m. April 22 at the Center Green Theater in the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood.
Panelists for the program include actress Erin Gray, SAG Vice President Amy Aquino and Joyce Burditt, the creator of CBS’ “Diagnosis Murder.” “Extra!” anchor Phil Shuman is to be moderator.
Women in Film plans to make the panel the first in a series of events aimed at creating awareness of ageism in the industry, with the ultimate goal of convincing the industry to depict positive portrayals of men and women over age 35 while retaining older writers, producers and directors.
Admission is free to members of the sponsoring groups and $10 for nonmembers.
